Native to the United States, Salisbury Steak is a popular dish made with dried ground beef and served with a mushroom sauce. Beef patties can be served in sauce over rice, or even egg noodles, but mashed potatoes are the most traditional accompaniment. It prepares quickly and is inexpensive.
Meat
° 1 pound lean ground beef
° 1/2 onion, diced
° 2 cloves minced garlic
° 1/3 cup rusk rusk
° 1 large egg
° 1½ tsp. 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
° 2 tbsp. mayonnaise
° 1 c. salt
° ½ tsp. pepper
° 1½ tsp. Italian seasoning
° 1 c. on the ketchup table
° 1½ tsp. milk
° 2 tbsp. Dijon Mustard
° 1 c. tablespoons olive oil (for frying pancakes)
mushroom sauce
° 1/2 onion, diced
° 1 c. unsalted butter
° 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
° 2 cloves minced garlic
° 2 tbsp. All-purpose flour
1½ cups beef broth + ½ cup water
° ½ tsp. 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
° ½ tsp. Dijon Mustard
° 2 tbsp. ketchup
° ¼ tsp. salt
° ⅛ c. pepper
In a large bowl, mix all meat pie ingredients (except oil).
Blend well also to shape into 4 oval or round discs, flattening he center to obtain uniform thick .
Heat 1 tbsp From the oil in a non-stick skillet, add the pancakes and cook until golden brown on both sides and cooked through. Remove pancakes from pan and cover to keep warm.
Fry onions in the same pot. Once onions are soft, adding garlic also butter & mix.
Adding mushrooms also fry to golden brown, stir constantly. Seasoning little with salt & pepper.
In a bowl, whisk all remaining sauce ingredients together: 2 tbsp. flour, 1½ cups broth, 12 cups water, 1 tsp. Worcestershire, ½ tsp. Dijon, 2 tsp. ketchup, ¼ tsp. salt and ⅛ tsp. pepper.
Pour mushroom mix and cooking to sauce thickens.
Returning pancakes to pan, covering them totally with the sauce & mushrooms and cook to pancakes are heated through.
