This German cake is a recipe that is part of Amish cuisine. I had Granny Smith apples and had the idea to make it because, if you follow me, you know that this religious community fascinates me. If you want more Amish recipes, click here. I liked the sour taste of the apples, but if you prefer, you can use other types of apples.
° 4 to 6 people / Preparation: 12 minutes / Cooking: 45 minutes
° 125gm unsalted butter
° 180 gm brown sugar
° 2 large pasture eggs
° 250 g flour
° 2 tbsp. to c. cinnamon
° 2 tbsp. to c. chemical yeast
° 200 grams of plain cheese (here is Saint Malo) or milk
° 2 apples, here is Granny Smith (about 300g peeled and cut into small cubes)
On the top
° 3-4 teaspoons. to s. Brown sugar
° cinnamon pinch
° 80-100 g coarsely chopped walnuts
° 30 gm soft butter
* stages
1 Beat butter and brown sugar until creamy. Combine the eggs and beat again to combine. (I used an electric mixer)
2 Mix the flour with the cinnamon and baking powder and gradually incorporate this mixture into the egg mixture, then add the yoghurt and mix well.
3 Then add the apple cubes and roll them well in preparation.
4 Grease a rectangular tin generously, then sprinkle with flour on all sides. Pour the mixture into the mold and sprinkle well with brown sugar, then cinnamon. Spread the nuts by pushing them a little into the dough and spread small pieces of butter over the entire surface of the cake.
5 Bake for 45 minutes in a preheated oven at 180 ° C. To check doneness, place the tip of a knife in the middle of the cake. If it comes out dry, then the cake is ready, if the blade, on the contrary, shows traces of dough, then it is necessary to extend the cooking time.
Enjoy !
