French Onion Beef Casserole



This playful take on the classic casserole dish can be made in just 30 minutes with caramelized onions, cooked gnocchi, and melting Gruyère and mozzarella cheeses.


* Ingredients

° 2 tbsp. to s.  unsalted butter
° 2 onions, thinly sliced
° 2 garlic cloves, minced
° 4 tbsp. at t. fresh thyme, finely chopped, divided
° 2 tbsp. at t. Worcestershire sauce
° 1/2 tsp. at t. black pepper
° 1/2 cup Beef Broth with Red Wine with 30% less sodium
° 2 lb cooked gnocchi
° 3/4 c gruyere-cheese, graated
° 3/4 cup grated mozzarella cheese

* Preperation :

Preheat the grill. Grease a 13 x 9-inch (33 x 23 cm - 3 L) baking dish.

Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat; cook onions for about 15 minutes or until golden brown, stirring occasionally. Add the garlic, 2 teaspoons (10 mL) of the thyme and the pepper, and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Add the Worcestershire sauce and deglaze by scraping the brown pieces from the bottom of the pan.

Increase the heat to medium-high. Stir in the broth, then the sauce; bring to a boil. Cook for 1 minute; add gnocchi, tossing to coat.

Transfer the gnocchi to the greased baking dish. Sprinkle with cheese and the rest of the thyme. Broil for 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted.
